Tips on repairing drywall ceiling:1. Assess the damageThe first thing you do is to check what the damage is. Your ceiling could be leaking and bringing you all that trouble. In case of a leakage, you will see an almost circular stain caused by the water. Check to see whether the area around the stain is still strong enough. You will be required to replace the area of the paper where the water has made it to fall away.2. Get rid of the damaged drywall ceilingFrom the damaged area, measure approximately two inches from the edge.  If the total area removed is smaller than 6 by 6 inches, then cut a total square of about 8 inches from the drywall. You should do this with a lot of care and precision so that you do not end up tampering with the strong surrounding drywall.3. Time to replace the cut drywallThe next thing you do is to get a new piece of drywall, the same size as the one that you had cut. Fit it in using drywall screws to the wood above it.

In case you didn’t have any wood, you could improvise and get a sizeable block. Use the screws once again by passing them trough the drywall to the block. Make sure the screws are well held up in the block to avoid a collapse. In case you are dealing with bigger damaged areas, then you should prepare yourself with enough new drywall materials. You should also have a block in case you do not have the wood, just like in the smaller patch. When you get to it, you will realize that it is even easier when done in practical terms.4. Do the final touchesYou have successfully repaired your damaged drywall ceiling. However, remember to patch them up with a finishing tape. Then apply drywall mud and give it 24 hours for drying to take place. Apply again and sand, and allow it enough time to dry.
